ThinkingPeople was founded in 2002 by Merrill
Chapman, then a 35 year old Charleston, South Carolina native. After ten years as a radio DJ she took a hiatus to raise her
family, including husband John, dogs Folly, Chess, and Jasmine. She has found her voice again and is speaking out against
injustice.
Our members come mostly from the Lowcountry of South Carolina with a few as far as Savannah and Atlanta,
Georgia. We are an eclectic group ranging from the infant activist to many in their golden years. Students work for peace
in ThinkingPeople alongside professors, professionals, laborers and artists.
Joyce joined ThinkingPeople because of
her desire to be a part of stopping the war on Iraq. Stephan joined our group when he saw that we are thinking outside of
the box when fighting a local civil liberties issue. Sara was attracted to the ThinkingPeople philosophy that animals must
be given equal respect with humans and the environment for true peace to come to fruition.
We come from different walks
of life, have small voices as individuals, but as ThinkingPeople, we come together to make real change in the world. Today,
we are over 400 ThinkingPeople members strong.
